Background

The Texas Supreme Court recently revised a rule that would allow judges in the state to refuse to perform marriages for LGBTQ+ people. Though officiation by a judge is not required for marriage in Texas, we know this news can be painful for members of our LGBTQ+ community.

We also know that many of our Jewish clergy perform these marriages and will continue to do so for the growing number of LGBTQ+ people in our Jewish communities. We want our community members to know that these leaders are here, ready to support, celebrate, and stand with them when needed.

Take Action

1) Keshet invites all Jewish clergy in Texas to sign on to the following statement affirming that they will continue to perform marriages for LGBTQ+ people in our state.

This form will remain open until the end of December 2025, when the sign-on and signatories will be published on a special page on the Keshet website.

2) Submit your info to our Equality Directory to make it easier for folks in Texas to find you and get in touch.

We are so grateful for your support and ongoing commitment to uplifting the dignity and sanctity of all.

Please sign on to the letter using the form below. Then, share this letter with others in your network and Texas Jewish community.

To our Texas community:

As Jewish clergy living across the state, we stand united in affirming that all marriages are worthy of blessing and celebration.

While the Texas Supreme Court has recently made a rule change allowing judges to perform marriages for LGBTQ+ people, we will continue to perform and bless these unions for those who seek them.

We are guided by our shared belief that all people are holy and deserving of kavod (honor), and that all love is holy and deserving of kavod (honor). We are proud to stand with our LGBTQ+ community members.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned Texas clergy
