Building Blocks of Belonging: A Keshet Learning Series for Jewish Day and Supplemental School Educators and Staff

This is a 3-part series, with sessions in November, December, and January.
Session One. November 11, 2026 | 4:30-6pm ET
Ingredients Of An LGBTQ+ Affirming School: Curriculum, Policy, and Culture
Session Two. December 16, 2026 | 4:30-6pm ET
Building Buy-In and Sustaining LGBTQ+ Affirming Jewish Schools Together
Session Three. January 20, 2027 | 4:30-6pm ET
Cultivating Hope and Resilience in our Jewish Schools

In the first session, we will lay the groundwork for understanding the core ingredients of affirming schools, which celebrate LGBTQ+ learners as well as learners of all identities. When we teach in ways that make space for all of our students, ensure policies that protect student wellbeing, and develop cultures of respect, our schools are stronger for everyone.

In the second, together we will examine the range of stakeholders and beneficiaries of LGBTQ+ affirming schools, and think through ways that various groups of stakeholders can be brought in. We will discuss how to navigate some common pitfalls in the work for affirming schools, and develop tools to sustain the momentum we need.

For our final session, as we enter a new secular year, our final session will turn toward hope. Conversations about LGBTQ+ student wellbeing can too often center struggle and pain. While acknowledging the challenges facing our communities, we’ll instead explore sources of resilience, grounding our approach in the strengths, optimism, and deep capacity for joy found across LGBTQ+ and Jewish traditions.
